Doi Tung Flagpost

Doi Dung is the national park mountain estate locale of the King's mother, also in Northern Thailand. "Dung" translates as flag, which you can see hanging from the posts in this image, and "doi" translates as mountain. Not only is the architecture of the estate magnificent, the mountain view should not be missed.

The ancient ruins of Ayutthaya are all that remain of Thailand's former capital city, destroyed by Burmese invaders in 1767. The tale of the city's last battle is an epic one, perhaps only bested by the earlier legend of Queen Suriyothai, who died in 1528 while defending her beloved King Mahachakrapat. Thai Buddhist Temple

Buddhist temples can be found everywhere throughout Thailand. Because Buddhism is such an intrinsic part of Thai culture, temples are necessary facilitators of social life. Tourists will be awed by the beauty of Thailand's temples, but beware - these are consecrated monuments, not merely architectural achievements. If you're uncertain of Thai customs regarding Buddhism, click on either image to the left to learn more.
